On 25 June 2019, Chris de Lapuente, CEO of Sephora, joined Chantal Gaemperle, Group Executive Vice President Human Resources and Synergies for the LVMH Group, to sign the five main Standards of Conduct for Business on Tackling Discrimination against LGBTI people issued by the United Nations.
We believe that these five standards are vital. They agree to respect the human rights of employees, customers and members of the LGBTI community, eliminate discrimination in the workplace, support LGBTI personnel at work and not discriminate against LGBTI customers, suppliers and distributors. They also mean that we will do everything we can to make sure our business partners do the same by defending the human rights of LGBTI people in the communities where they do business.
These are promises which we are committed to keeping.

Local adaptation
Our stores
We did an analysis and found that the electricity consumption of our stores is our primary source of greenhouse gas emissions.
The second is the CO2 emissions related to our logistics chain. So, our efforts are naturally focused on these 2 priorities. We used the 2013 figures as the starting point; from there, Sephora committed to reduce the CO2 emissions due to the operation of its stores by 25%. We’ve already decreased our emissions by over 50% since this date and we're not stopping there!
We’re continuing to invest in less energy-consuming solutions. Furthermore, over 50% of the electricity consumed by our stores in Europe comes from renewable sources, all with green energy certificates. Finally, in 2020, 75% of our stores in Europe are lit exclusively using LED systems. An LED solution consumes 30% less energy than halogen lighting. With all this, we can feel better already, can't we?

Where there are options, Sephora takes them!
For example, in France, Italy and Spain, we have been able to reduce our CO2 emissions and pollution in city centres by using alternative delivery solutions for our stores.
The proof? In France, 50% of our deliveries have been made by fully-electric vehicles for over 10 years.

Throughout our entire supply chain we are looking to improve working conditions as much as possible! In this regard, Sephora is helping its many suppliers to streamline their practices and production sites.
In addition, in a responsible purchasing approach and in partnership with Ecovadis, Sephora is assessing the CSR performance of its strategic suppliers.
Another requirement: we are conducting regular physical audits of all production sites in vulnerable geographic areas. These audits are being conducted by independent firms in accordance with the recognised standards for social and environmental practices. We want good objective results!
